Catherine, Princess of Wales, stepped out for a day of charitable engagements today in southern England.

The royal visited Hope Street, a residential community in Southampton piloting “a new approach to working with justice involved women.” The community was developed by the United Kingdom charity One Small Thing and is designed to transform women and children’s experiences with the justice system. “From within a healing, trauma-informed, residential environment, women and children will have access to a range of specialist support,” the group’s website states.

Hope Street offers a community alternative for women who would otherwise be imprisoned because of concerns about their well-being. The organization’s specialists educate prison residents to understand how trauma can affect them and to equip them with the skills to respond.
